Recently, we hosted a casting manufacturer located in Quebec, Canada. This customer required a silicon product with low sulfur and low nitrogen characteristics for use in the production process of graphite castings. After detailed communication with the customer and an in-depth understanding of the industry requirements for graphite castings, we ultimately recommended high carbon silicon as the ideal raw material for them.
What is High Carbon Silicon?
High carbon silicon is a raw material additive rich in silicon (Si), characterized by its main chemical components, which include Si, carbon ©, sulfur (S), and phosphorus §. The silicon content is typically ≥68%, and it has widespread applications in steelmaking, casting, and metallurgy. In steelmaking, high carbon silicon effectively deoxidizes molten steel, while in casting, it acts as a nucleating agent and graphite modifier, making it an important additive in both fields.
Since the Canadian casting manufacturer required a silicon product with low sulfur and low nitrogen characteristics, we focused on enhancing the overall performance of the graphite castings. By selecting high-quality raw materials and employing more advanced and specialized production purification techniques, we ensured that the levels of sulfur and phosphorus were precisely controlled to below 0.05%. With the advantage of our resource-rich raw material extraction base, we were able to produce high-purity high carbon silicon at a low cost, meeting the various application needs of the customer and effectively improving the performance of their castings.
This Canadian customer was collaborating with us for the first time. Upon receiving an order for 130 tons of high carbon silicon for trial, they promptly began incorporating it into their graphite casting production process, achieving excellent performance results. During subsequent follow-up visits, the customer expressed their recognition of our high carbon silicon products, laying a solid foundation for our application in the Canadian casting sector.
